Over 1,000 km of roads in Hyderabad to be upgraded at a cost of Rs 3,145 crore
Hyderabad: A 1,045-km road network across Hyderabad is headed for an upgrade under Phase-2 of the Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP), at an estimated outlay of Rs 3,145 crore. The road network covers all three municipal corporations of Greater Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri. The state govt recently granted administrative sanction for the project. Of this, about Rs 2,230 crore will be spent on BT and CC roads under Phase I using conventional methods for a length of 744.22 km, while an additional Rs 208 crore has been earmarked for 64.49 km of CC roads not included in the first phase. Another Rs 707 crore will be utilised for 236 km of BT roads using Full-Depth Reclamation (FDR) technology.GHMC commissioner RV Karnan said that the entire project cost of Rs 3,145 crore would be funded through GHMC's general funds over a 10-year period (2026-27 to 2035-36), without seeking additional financial support from the state govt.According to a GO issued by the municipal administration and urban Development (MAUD) department, the proposals under CRMP Phase II have been designed for a 10-year period, taking into account earlier works executed by HRDCL and the selective adoption of FDR technology based on pavement conditions.
The plan also includes 398.32 km of approach roads, of which 97.5 km was already recarpeted using GHMC funds and is currently under execution. The remaining 300.79 km comprises 236.30 km of BT roads and 64.49 km of CC roads.Officials said that detailed project reports (DPRs) would be prepared before tendering. The recarpeting would be taken up only where necessary, while roads in good condition will undergo routine maintenance. Works will also include lane marking, mechanical sweeping, development of footpaths and medians, installation of signage and repairs to catch pits and manholes.
